• Long-time England supporter selling property to attend World Cup
• Plans to travel for seven weeks across United States, Canada and Mexico
• Rising ticket and travel costs continue to draw criticism from fans

England supporter Andy Milne is selling his house to fund a trip to follow the England national football team at this summer’s World Cup.

The 62 year old, who lives in Thailand, has put his second home in Cheshire on the market as he prepares to attend his tenth World Cup. Milne became widely recognised during the 2022 tournament in Qatar after an image of him celebrating with a replica trophy circulated online.

A retired teacher, he has followed England at eight men’s tournaments and one women’s World Cup since first attending the competition in Spain in 1982. He plans to spend seven weeks in North America and has secured tickets for matches through to the final.

Milne said the decision to sell his property followed years of planning and saving, describing the move as the right moment to commit to another tournament experience. He intends to manage costs by staying with friends and using informal accommodation where possible.

The 2026 World Cup, hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico, has already drawn criticism over rising expenses. Football Supporters Europe has lodged a complaint against FIFA regarding ticket pricing, with concerns raised about affordability for travelling supporters.

Prices vary significantly depending on category, with the cost of attending multiple matches reaching several thousand pounds even at the lowest tier. Additional concerns have been raised about transport and fan zone charges in host cities.

Despite the financial challenges, Milne remains committed to following England, continuing a long standing personal tradition of supporting the team at major tournaments around the world.
