Lamine Yamal injury scare overshadows Barcelona win amid Camp Nou disruption
- Yamal scores penalty before limping off with suspected hamstring injury
- Match paused for 20 minutes due to medical emergency in the stands
- Barcelona remain in control of LaLiga title race despite concern over key player
Lamine Yamal suffered an injury scare moments after scoring in FC Barcelona’s LaLiga clash with Celta Vigo at Spotify Camp Nou on Wednesday.
The 18-year-old won and converted a first-half penalty to give Barça the lead, but celebrations were cut short as he immediately dropped to the turf clutching his hamstring. Replays showed the Spain international in discomfort as soon as he struck the spot kick.
After receiving treatment, Yamal was able to walk off but could not continue, with Roony Bardghji replacing him shortly before halftime.
The match itself was also disrupted by a separate incident, with play halted for nearly 20 minutes following a medical emergency in the stands. The game resumed only after the affected supporter was safely evacuated, leading to an unusually extended first half.
Barcelona can ill-afford to lose Yamal at this stage of the season. The teenager has been central to their campaign, contributing 24 goals and 17 assists across all competitions while making 45 appearances.
His potential absence comes at a critical point in the title race. Barcelona sit six points clear of Real Madrid and could extend that lead to nine with victory, with only six matches remaining.
The two rivals are still due to meet in the decisive second league Clásico on May 10, a fixture that could ultimately shape the destination of the title.
Yamal has managed ongoing fitness issues this season, including pubalgia, but has largely remained available. This latest setback will now be closely monitored as Barcelona aim to maintain momentum in the closing weeks.
For now, the focus shifts from the result to the condition of one of Europe’s brightest young talents.
