Liverpool have dismissed an attempt by Bayern Munich to sign Luis Diaz, making it clear to the German club’s sporting director Max Eberl that they won’t entertain any sale talks for the Colombian winger.

The 28-year-old has already been the subject of interest this summer from Barcelona, who were also told he was unavailable. Liverpool consider Diaz untouchable in this window, citing his importance to Arne Slot’s squad.

Since his move from Porto in January 2022, Diaz has grown into a vital player for the club. Last season, he netted 22 times across all competitions for club and country, including 13 league goals and seven assists, playing a key part as Liverpool clinched the Premier League title by ten points.

Despite having two years left on his current deal, Diaz has reportedly drawn interest from Manchester City and Saudi Pro League sides.

Speaking earlier in the summer on Colombia duty, Diaz said: “I’m very happy at Liverpool – I’ve always said so. The transfer market is opening, and we’re trying to arrange what’s best for us. I’m waiting to see what happens. If Liverpool give us a good extension or I have to see out my two-year contract, I’ll be happy. It all depends on them. I’m here to decide and see what’s best for us and the future.”

In a separate move, Liverpool have announced the arrival of Giovanni van Bronckhorst as assistant coach under Slot. The 50-year-old Dutchman replaces John Heitinga, who has taken the managerial role at Ajax.

Van Bronckhorst, once a player at Arsenal, has previously coached Rangers, Besiktas and Feyenoord.
