  • Manchester City have agreed a £116 million deal with Nottingham Forest to sign England midfielder Elliot Anderson.
  • The transfer sets a new British record guaranteed fee and becomes City’s most expensive signing ever.
  • Anderson is expected to undergo a medical in the United States before completing the move after England’s World Cup campaign.

Manchester City have reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest to sign England midfielder Elliot Anderson in a British record transfer worth a guaranteed £116 million, sources have told ESPN.

The 23-year-old, who is currently with Thomas Tuchel’s England squad at the World Cup, is now expected to undergo a medical in the United States before completing his move to the Etihad Stadium.

Sources close to City said the deal is structured as a fixed £116 million fee with no add-ons. While it falls short of the overall British transfer record of £125 million paid by Liverpool to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United last summer, Anderson’s move will become the highest guaranteed fee ever paid for a British player.

The transfer surpasses Declan Rice’s £105 million switch from West Ham United to Arsenal in 2023 and also becomes Manchester City’s most expensive signing, overtaking the £100 million paid for Jack Grealish in 2021.

City made Anderson their priority midfield target this summer and finally reached an agreement after two previous offers were rejected by Nottingham Forest.

The midfielder is preparing with England ahead of Saturday’s final World Cup group-stage match against Panama and is expected to complete his medical in the United States before the transfer is officially finalised.

Anderson will become City’s first major signing since Pep Guardiola stepped down as manager at the end of last season.

Former Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca is expected to be confirmed as Guardiola’s successor in the coming days.

City have moved quickly to strengthen their midfield following Bernardo Silva’s departure to Real Madrid on a free transfer, while uncertainty remains over the futures of Nico González and Tijjani Reijnders.

Manchester United were also interested in signing Anderson during the summer window, but City have won the race for one of England’s most highly-rated young midfielders after making him their leading transfer priority.
