  • Pep Guardiola declines to clarify plans beyond current contract at Manchester City
  • FA Cup quarter final against Liverpool marks start of decisive run of fixtures
  • Guardiola backs Phil Foden despite recent scrutiny over form

Pep Guardiola has declined to provide clarity on his long term future at Manchester City amid renewed speculation surrounding his position.

Guardiola is under contract until 2027, with internal discussions expected during the recent international period regarding whether he will complete that term. Sources indicate that while the club expects him to remain in charge next season, there is awareness that a departure at the end of the current campaign cannot be ruled out.

When asked about his plans at a press conference, Guardiola referred to previous statements and did not expand on his intentions. His focus remains on the closing phase of the season, beginning with an FA Cup quarter final against Liverpool.

Liverpool arrive at the Etihad Stadium after a mixed run of results and face a demanding schedule that includes a Champions League fixture against Paris Saint-Germain. Guardiola described Liverpool as a leading rival and highlighted the strength of their squad following recent investment.

He stressed the need for Manchester City to match their previous performance levels, referencing a recent display against Arsenal as a benchmark for progression in the competition.

Team selection remains under consideration, including the role of Phil Foden following his involvement with England national football team. Thomas Tuchel has indicated that Foden’s recent form could affect future international selection.

Guardiola dismissed concerns regarding the midfielder, stating that fluctuations in performance are expected across a career and expressing confidence in Foden’s ability to return to form.
