Pep Lijnders has indicated that Bernardo Silva is likely to leave Manchester City at the end of the season.
Silva’s current contract at the Etihad Stadium runs until June, and the midfielder has yet to make a formal statement regarding his future. He has previously suggested that a decision has already been made, without providing further detail.
Lijnders, speaking after Manchester City’s 4-0 victory over Liverpool, referenced the approaching end of Silva’s time at the club and suggested that the remaining weeks of the season could represent his final period in a City shirt.
Silva, 31, has been linked with potential moves to clubs including FC Barcelona and SL Benfica, as well as interest from teams in the Saudi Pro League.
Lijnders described Silva as a distinctive player, highlighting his influence on matches through positioning, decision making and leadership. He added that replacing a player with the same profile is not realistic and that recruitment should focus on addressing team requirements rather than replicating individual attributes.
Manchester City have been linked with midfield reinforcements ahead of the next transfer window, including Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali. Lijnders said that development within the club’s squad and academy structure will also be part of future planning.
The win over Liverpool secured progression to the FA Cup semi final for Manchester City, adding to their domestic success after lifting the EFL Cup earlier in the season.
