• Thomas Tuchel warns of injury concerns during final weeks before squad announcement
• England depleted by absences in defeat to Japan at Wembley
• Manager insists recent results will not define World Cup campaign

Thomas Tuchel has admitted concern over player fitness ahead of naming his World Cup squad, warning that the final weeks of the club season could prove decisive for England national team.

England’s preparations suffered another setback with a 1-0 defeat to Japan national team at Wembley Stadium, following a 1-1 draw against Uruguay national team. The fixtures came amid significant disruption to Tuchel’s squad, with a number of senior players unavailable.

Captain Harry Kane was rested due to a training injury, while Jordan Henderson returned to his club early. Key figures including Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Noni Madueke, John Stones and Adam Wharton were also absent through injury.

Tuchel acknowledged the impact of losing multiple leaders within the group and highlighted the risk of further setbacks during the closing stages of the domestic season. He stressed that even minor injuries in the coming weeks could have significant consequences for squad selection.

Despite the disappointing results, Tuchel downplayed their long term significance. England had previously completed a perfect qualifying campaign and he remains confident the team can regroup before the tournament begins.

He said the focus now is on recovery, maintaining player fitness and learning from the recent performances. With two months remaining before the World Cup, Tuchel expects to have a clearer picture once players return from club duty and the squad regains full strength.
