• Mauricio Pochettino denies contact with Tottenham or Real Madrid
• United States manager remains focused on Portugal friendly and World Cup
• Squad issues continue with Johnny Cardoso ruled out and Chris Richards assessed

Mauricio Pochettino has dismissed speculation linking him with a return to club management, insisting his full focus remains on the United States men’s national soccer team ahead of the World Cup.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain coach has been linked with vacancies at Tottenham and Real Madrid in recent weeks, particularly following the departure of Igor Tudor. However, Pochettino confirmed there has been no contact.

He said his priority remains preparing for the upcoming friendly against Portugal and the World Cup campaign, adding that discussions about his future are not relevant at this stage. While not ruling out staying beyond the tournament, he made clear that his current commitment lies with the national team.

In terms of squad news, midfielder Johnny Cardoso has been ruled out of the Portugal match and has returned to Atlético Madrid due to a recurring leg issue. Defender Chris Richards, who missed the recent defeat to Belgium, is expected to be available, although he will undergo further assessment.

The United States were beaten 5-2 by Belgium national football team in their last outing, a result that exposed defensive weaknesses despite a strong first-half display. Richards acknowledged the need for improvement but pointed to encouraging signs, particularly in the opening stages of the match.

Pochettino emphasised the importance of maintaining intensity across the full game, with a focus on defensive organisation and consistency. He believes these areas must improve quickly if the team is to compete effectively at the World Cup.

The United States begin their campaign against Paraguay national football team on June 12, with preparations continuing in California as the squad builds towards the tournament.
