  • Pep Guardiola reminds Manchester City players Arsenal are still top despite closing gap
  • Erling Haaland strike seals 2-1 win to move City within three points
  • Injury concern for Rodri ahead of crucial trip to Burnley

There was satisfaction for Pep Guardiola, but not indulgence. Not yet.

Manchester City did what they needed to do against Arsenal. They won, they closed the gap, and they shifted the feel of the title race. But Guardiola was quick to bring it back to something more grounded.

“Who is top of the league?” he asked. The answer, of course, is still Arsenal.

It was a pointed reminder. City may be three points behind with a game in hand, but nothing has been decided. Not even close.

Guardiola’s tone was measured. Step by step, he said. There is belief, certainly, but no sense of assumption. This is a team that has been here often enough to understand how quickly things can turn.

The win itself carried weight. Erling Haaland’s second-half goal settled a game that felt tight throughout. Both sides had chances. Kai Havertz might have equalised late on. Fine margins again.

Guardiola called it a showcase of the best of English football. Two teams prepared to go man-to-man, to press, to attack. There was quality, but also risk. That is what made it compelling.

City now have the opportunity to go top if they beat Burnley. It is a chance, not a guarantee. Guardiola knows that.

There is also a concern.

Rodri left the field late on with what looked like a groin issue. Guardiola offered little detail beyond confirming tests will follow. It is the kind of injury City could do without at this stage.

Still, the broader picture is clear. City are in it. Fully in it.

Guardiola even admitted he would have accepted less on the day, given the level of performance. That says something about his team, and perhaps something about the respect he holds for Arsenal.

But respect does not win titles. Consistency does.

City have given themselves a chance. Guardiola’s message is simple enough. Keep going, and do not get carried away.
